Scandinavian Design – Inspiration At Our Finger Tips

Scandinavian Design:

It’s true, we will hold our hands up and open our hearts to say we love Scandi design. I mean … what’s not to love? Those clean lines, those muted, tonal colours and chic form to die for.

In fact we couldn’t pin point which we love the most, it’s stylish fashion contribution to the global industry or it’s awe inspiring form with function furniture and architecture … it’s true, we are at one when gazing scrupulously at all the talent they have to offer.

The raw talent of recent graduates such as Yvonne Laufer, who’s an emerging Danish Fashion Designer who has only just graduated from Denmark’s Royal Academy’s School of Design … impressive stuff:

We spotted an exhibition that we reckon is not to be missed, if this too is your bag, take yourself to Somerset House, 15th till the 19th February during London Fashion Week and check out “Fashion Scandinavia”. Styled and curated by the Danish fashion stylist and writer Dorothea Gundtoft, the exhibition will host more than 40 labels and designers from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, delivering a “fresh look at the Scandinavian cool”. Dorothea Gundtoft will also be launching her new fashion book, Fashion Scandinavia: Contemporary Cool, profiling 56 Scandinavian designers – we’re adding it to our wishlist as we speak!

If hardware is more your thing why not take a city and cultural break to visit Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, running 4th till the 8th February. With 70,000 square meters of innovations in furniture, interior and lighting design, how could a visitor NOT be inspired?

We selected a couple of favourites which hold all the essence of sophistication and elegance which you would hope for from well-crafted, pieces of furniture, made with passion. These are a selection of Carl Hansen pieces, which “combine traditional woodworking techniques with the latest technology to produce furniture of lasting value” – divine!

And Skandiform offers us the purest of white in their furniture for offices and inspirational public spaces. They successfully fuse design, function and quality, they call it “Scandinavian sense” – their way of balancing common sense with a passion for what they do.

Now, we’re going away to re-decorate … re-design and re-think … everything … until next time …
